When was the last time you scheduled time to do nothing? Sounds silly doesn’t it? But, think about it, when do you come up with your best ideas? Usually when you have time to think, right? Well… when do you have time to think? Have you ever heard someone say they do their best thinking in the shower? My greatest ideas come to me there. In fact, the idea for this article came to me while showering. Does soap scum make people smarter? Maybe it’s the hot water and steam that brings us clarity. Let’s be realistic and really think about it. Taking a shower is uninterrupted time. How can you possibly think well if you are constantly interrupted? Daily interruptions include a phone that constantly rings, emails that never stop, and co-workers that continuously pop in. When you get home it doesn’t change - you may have children and a family that needs you too. With a life like yours, you will never get uninterrupted time. Obviously it isn’t healthy to take 20 showers a day, not to mention it isn’t very economical, so you need to find other means to find that uninterrupted time. This means you may need to make some changes. There are several ways to steal some quiet time without having to schedule it: Don’t talk on your cell phone in your car Pick the longest line at the supermarket Eat lunch alone Take a quick walk If all else fails, schedule it |
